The inhabitants of the Gippsland region, Australia, admired, Monday, Nov. 3, a strange weather phenomenon. Called “Virga hole”, it gives the impression that a door was opened in heaven. But this phenomenon has a scientific explanation. These clouds, called “fallstreak” or “Virga hole” in French, are formed when temperatures are below zero. The droplets freeze instanténament, triggering a chain reaction.

Once they turn into ice crystals, they eventually fall. Some of them evaporate and create, by domino effect, a gaping hole in the cloud layer. The show in Australia was particularly époustoufflant a rainbow sky is also formed at the same time. Hundreds of locals have shared on social networks photos of the phenomenon.
